But between us and frankly, 40% have now totally gotten passé. As if we’ve just had black tea that we had sweetened with aspartame. There’s some cinnamon and nutmeg, as well as walnuts, but it feels bizarrely empty, there isn’t enough fruity kick to support those dry spicy notes. ![]() The water is used to clean the barley before it is fermented and distilled. The Macallan whisky is made from spring water that comes from the nearby River Spey, which is also used to make other Scottish whiskies such as The Glenlivet and The Balvenie. Deliciously smooth, with rich dried fruits. The Macallan is a famous single malt whisky that is known for its distinct flavor and smoothness. Some burnt sugar too, toasts… Mouth: once again, it’s the low strength that makes it a little too flabby and frustrating. Its a decent whisky but theres just a little too much sherry for my taste which detracts from the other flavours it possesses. Vanilla with hints of ginger, dried fruits, sherry sweetness and wood smoke Palate. This one’s nice as well, but it’s a little more, yeah, vague, with wee leafy smells, some kinds of dusty nuts, and this feeling of old books that can be brilliant… Or not. Nose: to be honest, I liked the freshness of the ‘Gold’ a little better. I have to say, all these stories on Macallan bottles smell funny to me, but at the same time I also have a big soft spot for whisky that ties into nature. A large crystal decanter of Macallan M, a blend of. Very vague, I’d say, but as they say in Washington, it’s only the result that counts. 3 Fine Scotch can sit in a barrel for several decades and sell for thousands of dollars a bottle. But is all that only silicone for whisky? Let’s see… Oh and this has been aged in ‘a combination of American oak and ex-sherry casks’. Macallan 12 yo ‘Double Cask’ (40%, OB, +/-2016) Ha, double casks! That’s nothing when you already have ‘four oaks’ elsewhere (Laphroaig).
